The Rose of Jericho is definitely one of the coolest house plants a person could own! It gets its name “The Resurrection Plant” for its ability to “come back to life” after completely drying up!

Basic Care For Your Rose of Jericho.

The biggest problem people face when it comes to taking care of their Rose of Jericho is overwatering. While the plant can survive with almost no water, it can rot/mold if overwatered.

So here are the steps you need to take to set up your Rose of Jericho for survival and ultimate success.

Step 1: To “plant” your Rose of Jericho, find/buy a shallow dish with no drainage holes and fill it with pebbles or gravel, leaving an inch or two of space at the top. (We personally use river rock as our Rose of Jericho base.)

Step 2: Fill the dish with water until the pebbles are just submerged.

Step 3: Place your dry Rose of Jericho on top of the pebbles just so that the roots are submerged in the water.
Step 4: Let your Rose of Jericho sit in the water; it should start to open within 2-4 hours.

How to keep your Rose of Jericho happy after planting?

Here’s an easy watering schedule you can follow!

Schedule:

1: Change the water for your Rose of Jericho every day. (If you are using tap water, from towns or cities, set out the water you will be using in a bowl overnight. This will make sure all chemicals and Chlorine have evaporated from it making it safe to add to your Rose of Jericho.)

2: To prevent overwatering and rot the Rose of Jericho needs a Water-Free rest day once a week. So, pick one day a week where you completely drain your dish and let your little plant rest. (Since our Rose of Jericho is in our shop, its water rest days are on weekends. Just make sure to pick a day that works best for you and stick with it.)

3: Lastly, every month you should give your Rose of Jericho a week without water to fully dry out. This helps mimic its natural dessert environment. (We usually pick the beginning of every month.)

Note: If your Rose of Jericho does get mold/rot on it you can simply rinse it off under lukewarm tap water and begin your watering schedule over again!

Rose of Jericho

Fun facts about the plant of Resurrection:

The Rose of Jericho is a type of moss native to desert regions where water is a scarce resource. This is why creating a water rest schedule is the key to this plant’s success in your home.

Sometimes the Rose of Jericho can smell like fish! Don’t be alarmed. This is just the Rose of Jericho adapting to the water! The Fishy smell will eventually go away.

The Rose of Jericho is like a tumbleweed. This means, once it exhausts its current water source it dries out and lets the wind carry it to the next water source!

The perfect adaptation to survive the harsh desert climate.

Spiritual Properties of the Rose of Jericho:

In spiritual practices, the Rose of Jericho is believed to have the following properties/spiritual energy.

1: Brings peace, prosperity and abundance to a home or business.

2: Protects against illness.

3: Protects against all types of negative energies and vibrations.

4: Used as a type of Holy Water to bless people, objects etc.

Some people even believe the reason the Rose of Jericho molds sometimes is because it has absorbed too much negative energy and needs to be cleansed.

Mold and rot can also form from over watering! So make sure you are sticking to your watering schedule!
